VEP_Nitrogen_Gas_Springs

CYLINDER FEATURES AND TYPOLOGY The main components of VEP cylinders, such as the body, rod and the ferrule are made of highly resistant steel subjected to heat treatments and surface finishing to ensure high performance and long life. The piston rod seals and guide rings are very high quality, selected after careful evaluation of their features. The internal lubrication system of each cylinder guarantees longer life of sliding parts, heavily reducing maintenance operations and increasing productivity. The nitrogen gas cylinders comprise different families according to their initial forces and dimensions: EN; CSR; AR; AR/P; AR/C; KC; KD; KF; KCR; SR; SK. OPERATION ANDWORKING CONDITIONS Nitrogen is an inert gas and it is sent inside the cylinder until the maximum pressure of 15 - 18 Mpa is reached. In resting conditions the pressure acts on the piston-rod section (fig. 1 - page 16), and pushes it outwards with the same force as the cylinder initial force. Fo (N) = rod section (mm 2 ) x pressure (MPa) Example: Fo = 314 mm 2 x 15 MPa = 4710 N = 471 daN During the operating cycle the rod reverses inside the body, compressing and decreasing the volume of the gas contained inside the chamber, causing the force to increase. The cylinder has a behaviour similar to that of traditional mechanical springs, but unlike these it does not need any initial preloading. The cylinders can work in any position without being lubricated. Being hermetically sealed, while working they keep inside the special lubricant inserted during assembly. After a period of inactivity of the system, it is advisable to carry out a few complete cycles of the cylinders to optimise the sealing. It is preferable to avoid overheating, which would cause a rise in the pressure inside the cylinders. It is advisable not to exceed 1.6 m/s as linear speed of the rod for all types of cylinders except the SK (SR) family for which the maximum recommended linear speed is 0.5 m/s NITROGEN CYLINDER LIFE AND GUARANTEE If correctly installed and in normal conditions of use the nitrogen cylinders are guaranteed for a minimum total stroke extension of 200.000 linear metres. This measurement is given by the sum of the rod forward and return strokes. In critical working conditions or if external causes determine faulty operation of the product, a maintenance operation may be necessary to replace the seals or damaged parts. VEP Automation is responsible if the product fails to meet the guaranteed manufacturing and quality requirements. The manufacturer is not liable for presumed damages caused by improper use or the failure to follow the instructions given in this catalogue. The manufacturer is not considered liable for any tampering with the cylinders (opening of the cylinder will invalidate the guarantee), errors in fastening, use of non original spare parts, incorrect system calcula- tions and the choice of wrong sizes, knocks and scratches or marks on the rods that may have compromised operation or pressure tightness.
